For some reason polls are glitchy as hell and I don't know how to fix it so just ignore this random poll up top
So, over the past year, I've mostly complained about phantom forces and how downhill the game has been going. Today I decided, maybe I should actually state my opinion on something different for once, something no one else really talks about.
And that is-
The immersion of Phantom Forces
Now, I'm not going to talk about the new graphics and shading roblox has been working on, rather, things that stylis could do to make the game much more immersive and interesting to look at and listen to.
So first off, I may as well get this out of the way, the old muzzle flashes looked much, much better than the new ones. To me the revamped muzzle flashes are terrible, on most guns they're barely even noticeable. You expect a massive muzzle flash from the shear power and change in air pressure caused by fired the BFG-50, a damn anti-tank rifle? Guess what, you only get a tiny spurt of gas shot out from the gun. It's pathetic! And it's annoying because sometimes it doesn't even feel like I fired a gun. As view obstructing as the old muzzle flashes may have been on some weapons, at least they looked cool and hella badass. The new ones, are just weak. The only gun I can think of right off the bat that still has an interesting muzzle flash is the PPSH, looks like the old ones, except...you know, half invisible and dark. How can you call it a muzzle "flash" if it doesn't even look like there's light being emitted from the thing? But it still maintains the original shape, so at the very least I can actually see something coming out of the barrel of my gun.
I'm completely fine with stylis changing the muzzle flashes, in fact, that's a great idea, but damn try to make them look good, and at the very least noticeable!
Grenade Sounds and Visuals
Now for whatever reason this idea was scrapped years ago in the CTE. I feel like I remember grenade audio similar to this being added into the main game but for whatever reason it was removed later on.

For some reason this was scrapped?
I absolutely love immersion in video games and when it comes to FPS games, I feel like it's really important. After all, the better the immersion, the more you feel like you're in a real battlefield, the more you feel like you're in a real battlefield, the more intense and scary it gets, the more intense and scary it gets, the more you want to survive, and the more you want to survive, the better you'll perform in the game, make sense?
If you genuinely feel like you might die you'd try really damn hard to survive.
Another nice thing would be some screen shake depending on the distance from the grenade.
71+ studs - no screen shake
60 - 70 studs - very small amount
30 - 59 - a pretty considerable amount
20 - 29 - a lot
10 - 19 (17 is the max damage radius so you're fucked anyway) - more than you'd get from being suppressed by an M60
Grenades also need a sound when they're rolling around the ground, so you don't really have an excuse to not haul ass away from the hill when there's 3 grenades flying your way.
A nice touch for grenades would maybe be a custom explosion effect? Since the beginning PF has been using the default roblox explosion when they could try making their own. Same stats as the original but the visual effect would be much more realistic. One last thing could be that when a grenade explodes within the 35 stud range your screen gets a tad bit darker with some vignette around the corners of your screen, and the effect gets more intense the closer the explosion, something like red tunnel vision but instead of blood it's dirt and concrete dust getting flown into your eyes.
Remake Some of the Gun Shots
So, most of the guns in PF sound pretty decent as we all know, however, some of them are absolute garbage! Like the AK47, AK74, and AKM. They're too high pitched and short, they need to sound more powerful with a bit of reverb.
Another weapon that needs a gunshot remake is the M107. Because, if you listen to it, the sound of the bolt getting slung back and forth in the gun is just as loud, if not louder than the sound of the gunshot itself. And even the, the gunshot isn't really that good in the first place, it suffers a similar fate as the AKs, very high pitched sounds on a powerful gun do not mix, but at least the M107 has a little bit of reverb and echo to make it sound better, but still! Why not try to replicate the sound the M107 makes IRL? It sounds so much better anyway.
I also made a video for this post to represent some of the auditory and visual changes that could be made to improve the overall immersion of the game, here it is.
Phantom Forces right now is, all things considered, a very dull shooter game, (as dull as you can get for immersion in a shooter game at least). Grenades don't make sounds half the time, footstep audio doesn't cut in until 7 seconds or more later (which from the proximity you should be hearing footstep audio, the enemy probably already engaged you and scared the absolute shit out of you because you had absolutely no clue they were even in the same building rushing up the stairs or around a corner so the audio doesn't even occur until after either the death of you or the enemy). In which case the only audio you actually hear is gunshots, suppression, and the LSW's earrape suppression.
The sound design and visuals are really lacking at the moment, and I feel like changes like these could make the game so much better. So, what do you guys think about this?
